Day 212 WriteOut Stories Around A Campfire

When the shining sun swallowed
by cumulonimbus clouds
leaves us in darkened light,
and the wind whips around
the strength of bending branches
in father sycamore, patches of color
quilt the sky in the rush of leaves flying by,
reminding us that letting go
strengthens us with the force and flexibility
we hold within our past, pushing us forward
into calm, into memories, into stories,
into the call for the songs we need tomorrow.

Today marks the beginning of #writeout: Write Out is an October writing project by the National Writing Project. This year’s theme, Stories Around the Campfire, connects to the National Park Service theme for October. Here’s an introduction to get ready for the many ways and prompts in which you may get involved.
You don’t need a national park or a park– you just need a window to look outside. Or your backyard or front stoop. A local park is nice, or a spot in the wilds. All you need is a glance outside and reflection into the wonder of nature.
Today the sunny morning transformed into and windy, sometimes darkened rainy day. So that is the quick sketch I made of the sycamore in our backyard– a poem of a lesson learned from the nature of an autumn wind rustling through the trees.
Please join in and write or draw– or just imagine. Just click the links above for more information.
