Quite fun to design this one, although the head scarf needs a lot of work. Still, I’m focusing on faces and hair for these with the other props. I loved creating the little honey bees. I started out with a beetle shape background in yellow and added in the black sections. I changed the wings to transparent bee wings, an asset from one of my modern folk art insects. The insects were created in Affinity Designer as well, with ideas from Tracey Capone‘s Skillshare class, Modern Folk Art Insects. Affinity Designer assets allow for reuse of carefully created elements of one’s art, like the bee’s transparent wings. Those can then be revised to fit the new art.
Another benefit of Affinity Designer is the ability to fine tune each element through the “nodes” of the vector shapes and lines. That helped with the hair, dress, scarf, and bee– helping to fit the shape into the needed placement and shape for the needed design.
