Day 90 Amplify Over Disinformation
On Day 77, I shared the stifled voices, and that we need to amplify those who are unheard.
Yesterday, Day 89, I shared the disinformation campaigns of the far-right.
The disinformation campaign — the snake squeezing the voices of the Black Lives Matter movement happens now in my state.
Protesters in Seattle are protesting peacefully for systemic change towards community programs rather than a militarized police department. A conservative blogger and former Seattle City Council candidate began a rumor based on “unnamed police officers” that protesters were extorting businesses. It is not true, as reported by the Seattle Times in today’s protest updates: Police walk back report that Capitol Hill protesters extorted businesses. The truth is that business has picked up– the protestors eat and share:
Restaurant owners said they hadn’t heard any reports of extortion in the Autonomous Zone. On the contrary: Sales are strong and the increase in walk-up business is cutting down on delivery costs…
When he came to the Autonomous Zone Wednesday, rather than extortion, he said he was met with an offer of a free bagel-and-cheese sandwich.
