Koi

Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. In 2015 Scott had a conference somewhere on the coast, the place we stayed, though in the city, was surrounded by trees and natural areas. My favorite part was the walk up to the entrance, and just a step down a path led to this lovely koi pond. The little, big fish popped up to see who was standing by. The caretaker came by just then and said, “They’re looking for me. It’s not feeding time yet, but they know to come say hello.”

on the walkway to the door
and just a step away
a pond delights the tourists
with orange and white and grey
of swimming, swerving colors
of a carp that we call Koi
bobbing up to say hello
“Do you have food we will enjoy?”
