Willow Watch

Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. In my story for for National Novel Writing Month: NaNoWriMo, my story So Says the River includes scenes from our local area which inspire through its shadows and lights the possibilities of other, connected worlds, some helpful and others not. This willow grove surrounding other maple trees is one such place about which this poem flowed…
Willow Watch
By the river where it slows
Sheri Edwards
always moist so willow grows
up around the maples tall
here and there, at first small,
sprouts so close and side by side
in row by row a grove so wide
the shore unseen a soul can hide
and, too, a creature dark inside
calls to you as wind will blow
inviting you to space below
beware the pull; avoid the push
lest you are lost within the bush
watch for shadows in the growth
that the sun the source puts forth
and if the sun is blocked and dark
back yourself ’til light the bark
back through willow to the light
back to sun that gives us life
