When you meet a bully, your emotions frazzle— every nerve is on edge. You try to find a focus, something to hang on to, but every thought and nerve tenses. Your mind and body shake. It’s ugly. In this art is a center, the place to hold on to and begin to build a barrier to protect oneself from the bombardment of insults and lies. This is how I feel from what should have been a serious debate or conversation about the issues facing us— climate change, COVID, health care, racism. Instead, the president of the United States suggests violence with his “stand by” comment and his refusal to expect and implore a safe election at the voting polls.
