Slice of Life Temporary
I love fall. I love when the wind blows and all the leaves tumble and toss on the ground before any one can rake them up so we can all run and slide and dance through them. I love that my town has trees throughout our west side, and that I can look forward to summer shade and fall frolicking.
I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things… I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind. Leo Buscaglia
Quote from Brainy Quote
Each season is temporary. Each life is temporary. This is the time of year I am saddest due to the loss of my son a year ago, but I remember the words of Leo Buscalglia–
“I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.” ~ Leo Buscaglia
We are each a season, passing through our time, giving and receiving memories that keep our temporary time alive. Those we touch hold our memories, a bridge from the past to the future. And we remember and hold those that bring us joy.
Whenever I walk these steps on my path, I sense a step into the future because each step, each time I arrive, looks different; its vision is temporary for that moment, that season, that hour. And because I can reach the top, I know I’ll make it through any difficult times.
I have other such places that inspire me. This rock in the center I’ve passed for thirty-one years each school day. It’s one of the basalt “haystack” boulders, dropped by a glacier thousands of years ago, carried from somewhere else. It’s been here, for thousands of years, in that spot. At any time, in the winter, snow could melt through it’s cracks, then refreeze and expand to break parts off. But, in all these years, it still has appeared, in just a brief moment, at a certain point as I drive by, as a bear, sitting by a huckleberry bush, feeding on the berries. I love that.
A seemingly ageless rock could crumble at any time, and in a temporary moment, it’s part of a huckleberry story. Here’s how I see my bear rock:
And yesterday as I drove by, the sunshine was temporary as the storm ahead was bloing in:
Now, the hills around us, like this rock, seem ageless, like they’ll always be there. But… here’s a road that fell, and with budgetary constraints, the crew just paved the highway over the landslide!
On my way home, I passed this once very busy small town hardware, feed, and grocery story. But, as happens so often, the owners retire and the children have moved on, not continuing the family business.
I love the fancy “Ts” in the windows, and the artful design [see above on the right; I guess I cout it off in the picture below]. It was a labor of love at one time, and the only store in this little town I drive through on my home.
Temporary is everywhere. Today, while writing, I looked over at my pencil case to find this ladybug, which found its way inside for winter for temporary housing, camouflaged with its colorful shell.
And, again, finally, the cat, temporarily catnapping.
And that’s my round trip of “temporary” thoughts for the WordPress Weekly Challenge.
Now on to NaNoWriMo writing time….
