She Slinks

cat slinking up the hill to the sidewalk in the garden

Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. Our cat. She’s wild. She thinks only of sleep, water, food, and staying alert. She hears every bird, grasshopper, bee, and butterfly. Did you know the Nez Perce have a word for the sound of butterfly wings? It’s “thlep thlep.”

She Slinks

She sleeps, mostly
Yet always listens
For the chirp of a bird
or the “thelp thlep”
of a butterfly’s wings
and she rolls into her crouch
and slinks.
