Another Art as Memory #artasmemory
Today’s memory is one from the 1950s again– back at time when refrigeration and deliver infrastructure was not in place everywhere– nor the technology for keeping fruit fresh.
So we had a bunch of bananas on the counter and usually apples in the crisper. Everything else came in seasons: oranges, peaches, strawberries, and raspberries.
We did not have every day the availability of fresh fruit out in the modern-type baskets now seen in the homes of our kids.
We are so lucky to have access to fresh fruit and vegetables every day.
Like I said, that was not the case in the 50s and before.
So “Make America Great Again” slogans lose out again. Those days were not what you think they were.
For the art, I made it a bit funky for the background because my perspective for drawing a table is not yet refined. I drew one, but then I opted for “funky.”
I found a Paul Cezanne basket of fruit as a style and so chose Lisa Bardot’s Artist Pastels and Texturrific Brushes for my illustrating.
