Mule Deer

Two mule deer in the park; one laying down, ears listening, another standing, frozen, staring at the unseen person interrupting the afternoon grazing

Daily Note and Daily Create

Every day, a photograph, a poem. Today’s Daily Note poem is also a Daily Create— to create naturalist poetry under time constraints [ #ds106 @ds106dc   #tdc3815  #myFest22  Naturalist Poetry in the Making ].

On one of our daily walks, following the curve of the sidewalk, we surprised these two mule deer who also almost daily meander here for an afternoon nap and snack. So, today’s poem and Daily Create:

Mule Deer

They meander in the summer sun
down the rocky hillside
In easy steps of hooved legs
Mostly silent in their moving
Called by freshly watered lawn
For an afternoon nap and snack
In the park along the walk,
Brown eyes searching
Ears large and listening
One foot stomp
Freeze:
Something’s coming.
