Day 646 Bit by Bit

Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. Snow today. So I searched my photos for looks out a window, hoping for some delightful snowy scenes, but instead I was intrigued with photos from our September, 2018 trip to Dayton and Walla Walla, via State Highway 21. So many interesting coulee images and small, historic towns. We really loved Dayton, where we stayed. It’s a quaint town where a stroll down the Main Street is filled with architecture, art, shops, restaurants, music. We’ll go again, but this door in my photos caught my eye and my mind.

Now, don’t get me wrong— Dayton is a wonderful place to stop and visit and enjoy— quaint shops and places to inspire that small town, home town feeling. On Sunday, we passed this well-groomed place of business, closed for this day, on our way to breakfast. So, yes— we enjoyed our visit.

But the door— one place where time has erased its once solid beauty with a reminder that we must with daily small steps continue to care for the things and ideas that make us, as humans, as Americans, as Washingtonians, unique in the universe. Step by step take care of the little things that keep our places and our spaces safe and open to all of us— a welcome place for all.

And so, a poem:

Bit by Bit

If
We don’t
Take good care
Step by step, then
Bit by bit
Things fall
Apart.
