In the Moment

Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. Napping the center back in the shade is a mule deer, undisturbed by our presence, hidden as she is back in the shadow of the autumn maple and willow trees beside Fiddle Creek in Cole Park.

Returning home, I found in the photo the dancing highlights sparkling on the brightness of the yellow in the fallen maple leaves. I wondered, had I paused a bit longer, if I would have seen more than sunlight dancing with shadows, but perhaps a wee pixie delighting in play among the leaves and sun rays…

In the Moment

Letting go to rest
Preparing for the cold
Standing naked in the sun
Among the fallen that was, once;
Once, but now a softness
Cuddling the soil— just
Follow sun and shadows
On the yellows of this blanket
Surrounding that which let them go
Settling into the moment’s magic
Warming soil and human hearts-
And maybe in that moment
See the fairies’ light and dance.
