450.39 Daily Create Paper Weave

Daily Create

Today’s Daily Create [ @ds106dc #tdc3471 ] is paper weaving!

I did my paper weaving digitally– but then friend Ronald tweeted his:

I had thought about actually paper weaving, but I’m working a short shift today and took the easy way out with digital…. but, inspired by Ronald, I considered and options and decided taking a better, more creative response.

So I gathered supplies — a copy of our very own newspaper, a copy of our visitor guide [our meaning– my remarkable husband is publisher/editor].

I considered the process:

  • cut vertical strips of the news paper so the columns could be read
  • cut horizontal strips of the cover of the visitor guide to create a horizontal picture in the rows
  • weave
  • slide onto a “base” square
  • add washi tape border
  • “Square” out words for a poem within the columns of newspaper text

And, here it is:

So thank you, Ronald, for inspiring a fun and playful activity for a day filled with wildfires to the north, smoke all around, and heat and wind that is not helping the fire fighters, whom our entire community thanks for their efforts to save lives and homes.

Here’s an entire website of information on preventing wildfires: Washington State Department of Natural Resources, including this one on defending your home [click image for pdf]:
