Day 441 Teacher, Remembered
Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. No photo today– just this screenshot of a new book.
I’d been trying to connect again off and on for a few years, yet this never showed up until today: the obituary for my mentor, a professor at Eastern Washington University who influenced my pedagogy with his own: Dr. Francis E Kazemek.
Dr. Kazemek’s teaching at EWU has directly influenced my own pedagogy as a middle school language arts and media teacher, from which I am now retired. He stressed critical thinking applied to projects, and that is how I also reached the best in my own students. I am forever grateful for his kindness, thoughtful courses, and inspired resources. He provided the foundation for us and allowed us, expected us, to explore and develop our own agency. His memory and influence lived and lives on. And, he will influence me still because I have ordered one of his books, which I know will provide another page to my teaching, even in retirement. Again, I am sorry we’ve all lost this amazing teacher.
