Day 267 Hope

Hope

Joy

Peace

Today’s Ornament challenge to myself was to create not only the vintage ornament, but also one with shadows and highlights.

To create the effect, I selected an area, feathered it, and then lightened or darkened the area with the Hue, Saturation, and Brightness adjustment. I also added “flare” highlights.

I like the effect and the deep red and green colors of a vintage ornament.

The most difficult part, of course, was creating the effect of “gold.” I inserted a “gold paint” image to a layer. I selected the relevant “gold shapes,” then copied that shape from the gold paint layer and pasted that into its own layer to create the effect of gold. It’s quite a process when there are so many “good layers.” Why so many? Because the brush stroke of the design is “clipped” to the ornament so only that part of the ornament shows as gold. The clipping mask is applied to each ornament.

If you have any questions, please ask.
