Excerpt from So Says The River
Day 244 of Covid Stay At Home
He stepped closer to the river, feeling the air cooling around him, away from the searing heat of this August day. He stepped closer only to hear the sound of a meadowlark in the cottonwood. It swooped in front of him, back and forth, back and forth. It perched on a lower branch of the cottonwood and repeated its call.
Walter turned to ask it a question, as he always did of the creatures around him.
But the meadowlark flew off to the pine behind.
