Warm Weather: Bug Bother

 

A step through the bunch grass

Stepping from the grasshopper

Waving away the gnats

Stopping to bother the June Bug

Who stands head down at foot’s intrusion

We laugh and leave it be, stepping back

at a flurry of wings:

we’ve frightened the flicker

awaiting his chance

at those crawling  and hopping

ground bugs.
