Choke Cherry
Yesterday’s #drawingdaily2020 challenge, was “childhood memory.” I remembered walking down the dusty lake road to pick the bitter berries of North Dakota: choke cherries. Their first flavor is bitter, but spit out the seeds and wait for that cherry sweet taste. A little sweet and bitter, a burst of berry moisture on a very hot summer day after a swim in the cold lake.
I searched for any photo online that could serve as a model, and I finally took a chance on Flickr. Sure enough, I found a public domain image by Alan Levine for a perfect model for my choke cherry painting, created with oil paint brush in ProCreate. I so appreciate the public domain license.
