My teacher on Skillshare [Chris Heath] suggested I look at the work of Christopher Dresser for inspiration. I did and decided to remove the border and add a background leaf motif. I also create a brush — three stretched brush strokes to create the line around part of the circular motif.

That made it possible to create a repeating pattern, so I added two more motifs: a flower and then just leaves. After building the repeating pattern, I also played with hue:

Playing in Affinity Designer was quite fun today, don’t you think?
