Little Crab Apples
Along the side street on the boulevard, the city owns a row of lovely crab apple trees bordering the sidewalk of our yard. Birds and deer feast on them. I remember the same tree in the back yard of my house on 315 North 8th Street [now a parking lot]. My mom made her favorite jelly from them; she used a lot of sugar, but it was delicious.
We let the deer, the birds, and the worms enjoy them as we enjoy their beauty in the spring and when the apples ripen. Time for school when the red wraps around them.
