Flattening
I participated in another SkillShare class. This class was by Olimpia Zagnoli and was called “Graphic Illustration: Boldly Design with Color and Shape.” The artist uses a Wacom tablet and Illustrator. I draw with my iPad and a vector app called Graphic.
As you can see, I was able to transfer the ideas and process to the app I used. I’m learning about bold colors and flattening/simplifying my characters. After exporting the image and viewing close-up, I see many areas I need to smooth the lines. I have a difficult time with the “pen” tool: those handles just don’t do what I expect and I mess up. Since it’s vector, I have to adjust the points and I’m not very good at selecting and changing. But the neat thing about digital art is that I can do it, and I can keep going back to make adjustments.
Our project was to create a self-portrait in the place we are now. It’s summer and the beach is just up the road. Obviously, that’s where I am, complete with book in hand.
Note: I don’t receive any compensation from SkillShare; I just like their classes.
