The Kitten

She sees the birds with focused eyes;
Still in this time her prey she spies,
Held in the ancient pose, disguised.
The robin birds before her pause;
She watches, slowly moving paws,
And like puma– leaps with open jaws.
The startled birds away they fly;
She circles, searching empty skies,
Held in the moment’s loss, she lies.
