Sky Above the Coulee

Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. On a trip to a lake we had not seen, we could see the awesome power of once raging floods that carved the coulees of Eastern Washington beneath as sky just as awesome in its magnificence.

Sky Above the Coulee

Beneath a sky of dark grey
a breeze ripples across the lake
that hides within an ancient bed of basalt
where once a raging river carved out its place
so now we listen to song birds in the grasses
waving from a river of wind slithering through its slim blades
sailing across the waters in gusts that must warn
that the sky is about to fall in torrents of hard rain.
