Day 504 Lavender in Cole Park

Daily Note

Every day, a photograph, a poem. The skies are clear today and the morning temperatures perfect for a walk in Cole Park, one of our daily choices together.

We walk across the foot bridge to the memorial to the first mayor for whom the park is named, then turn left up around the once-filled-with-kids-swimming-but-now-filled-with-sand pool, and as we turned the corner on the far side, there– beyond the water droplets sparkling in the freshly watered lawn [thanks to our excellent park manager]– gently waved the stems of tall lavender, shining in the sunlight, a beautiful sight teeming with life, I’m sure you’ll agree:

I believe the butterfly is a cabbage white, a frequent sight in eastern Washington, but you may identify it as another.

Lavender In The Park

Five foot tall stems topped
in delicate purple blooms,
serene and lovely—
yet bursting with life: cafe
for the bees and butterflies.

Writing Strategy:

Poem: Tanka [57577 syllables]

Post: Note that I do not follow a “five-sentence paragraph strategy, nor any normal “rules” of writing, because writing is a flow of ideas where the chosen words, written with punctuation for clarification of phrasing and meaning, create an image and meaning for the reader.
