Day 503 Long Friendships
Daily Note
Every day, a photograph, a poem. I called my friend today. It’s her birthday. She’s a year younger than I am, and we’ve been friends since high school.
The image above is of two gifts she’s sent me over the years– a card and a frog magnifying glass.
We’ve been sending each other “frog” presents ever since high school because over the summer in high school when she stayed with me, we each brought home a frog as pets: Edwin and Erwin. We kept them in the grass in my backyard where they eventually hopped away, but we’ve kept the pet frogs as tokens of friendship, sending them to one another off and on over the years.
Occasionally, we’ve been able to meet half way for a day together, to catch up and laugh and converse about the world, but that went on hold during the pandemic. Hopefully, next year.
It’s lovely to have long friendships that never grow old.
