So I opened my “Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy” by Douglas Adams to Chapter 7 where Arthur and Ford are forced to listen to the third worst poetry in the Universe, Vogon poetry. I found there an encounter with Jeltz, the captain and decided to recapture the event in a remix with Vogan poetry.
Notebook of Vogon Verses
Written by Jeltz himself, as he reganders it
I writangluar poetry for the porposedly pretenfarthing that
underneath my fuggedly, callgungerly, and heartless behemothardy I really just hanker to be hugged?
No, forfloggendly wrong!
I just foranther poetry to flingobble my fuggedly, callgungerly, and heartless behemothardy into cheddarly relief!
So! I’m going to flingobble you rightsunderly off the ship anyway!
Resistance is useless!
Hitchhiker [cowbeggerly] [direct quote]
I don’t want to die now! I’ve still got a headache! I don’t want to go to heaven with a headache, I’d be all cross and wouldn’t enjoy it!
I crushadded the steel door and setformidly mused, toppeningly fingering my notebook of verses, wrtiangluaring this degrumberly event with shustbinging glee.Based on Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Chapter 7, by Douglas Adams
Douglas Adams brings me smiles– he was a genius in clever comedy. The Hitchhikers book brought me to laughter over and over again. It is where the “42” in Sheri42 came from. His creation of it was a random thought, just a joke. [See Independent article interview]
His birthday was March 11th, and the world lost a very caring and humane person years ago.
He imagined a Hitchhikers Guide for humans on earth: “a collaborative guide, one that was written and kept up to date by the people who use it, in real time” [ h2g2]. The internet had not been “invented” yet, but he imagined and began considering how to create that global, connected community.
Eventually, he and a friend started H2G2 [and another one before that], which was once part of the BBC, and to which I once belonged so many years ago. Now H2G2 survives on the web…please take a look and enjoy. You can read about his vision here and look around the Earth Edition of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
The Daily Create is another “connected community” where we create every day, or as often as possible. I believe Douglas Adams would have enjoyed it.
