Interestingly, my friend Lorie saw my FB post on pasta [March Doodle Pasta] and suggested since it’s spring that I illustrate tulips for her instead.
Now, today’s prompt, still life, fit that request as well so I created a still life with tulips for my friend! It took most of the day and three documents, since Procreate only allows 55 layers for a document that is 10 in x 10 in at 300 DPI, which is the size I usually begin with. And I needed wayyyyyyyyyyyyy more than 55 layers. There’s so much coloring, shading, highlighting, toning, outlining, shadows, etc. for each object that, in order to preserve the object so I could change something, I needed to duplicate the document twice and merge layers in the duplicated ones to create more layers for the next set of objects.
I so enjoyed imagining the tulip colors, highlights, shadings, and shadows and then figuring out how to best create that illusion in digital art. I used different brushes and blend modes to create the effects, and I’m pleased with the results. I know, not perfect, but still– pretty good. 😉
And the best thing is that my friend Lorie has her tulips to enjoy!
